Amanda Marks, Special Events Manager, THE WESTIN SAVANNAH HARBOR
GOLF RESORT & SPA, gave us insight about what guests can expect at the Holiday Series in addition to Meeting the Savannah Quill Authors.
Q. Please tell the readers about the joy of the Holiday series.
Marks: The Holiday Series is a way we can give back and help our community. The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa is proud to invite children’s and family charities to use our spectacularly decorated resort as a holiday vessel to raise funds and awareness for their area-focused initiatives. We offer our tropical respite as a beacon for the community to know that the best things about the holidays are all accessible right here at home. Together with the Savannah Harbor Foundation we are able to present the area’s best gingerbread village, best Santa Claus, & famous boat parade of lights. With the addition of our charitable partners we present some of the best holiday programming in Savannah like concerts from the Savannah Children’s Choir, educational experiences from Oatland Island Wildlife Center, and celebrity appearances from sports superstars like Brian Jordan. All of these activities allow us the opportunity to engage our community and support the effort for a better Savannah.
Q.Please talk about your love for reading.
Marks: Losing yourself in a good book is one of my favorite pastimes. I have enjoyed reading my whole life. I love the insight and knowledge you can gain from a book. Reading encourages imagination, invokes critical thinking and allows you to become one with an eclectic cast of characters.
Q.Why is it important to give back to the community?
Marks: Giving back to the community is so important because you never know when you will find yourself in need. I grew up volunteering; my grandmothers would take me to every volunteer organization in my hometown. I learned how important it is to give back, something I have tried to install in my children. The Resort has a vested interest in making our community better for guests, but more so it is our commitment to our city and the people who live in it that drives our motivation to create special events like this. Wholesome family activities bolster the foundation of a city and we believe that we are succeeding in our mission to propel Savannah to new heights.
